FAQ

Do I have to be an artist member of Fresh Arts to exhibit in a Fresh Arts show?

You must be a financial member of Fresh Arts to exhibit. Your membership fee contributes towards the cost of public liability insurance, website and other related costs so the organisation can host exhibitions. Members are responsible for renewal of their membership and the Treasurer requests this happens prior to the 31 October in conjunction with AGM dates. Members are sent a reminder email some weeks before it is due. It is important to keep your membership up to date as this will ensure the executive can inform you of opportunities and member events coming up.

I don't have an email address. Is there any other way I can recieve information?

As information is usually sent out to members through email format, we strongly recommend members consider creating an email address and arranging regular access to a computer in order to recieve up-to-date information. If you require hard copies of information sent to you, we request you provide stamped self addressed envelopes to the Secretary. Please note this decision is purely a financial one, it's the most cost effective way for the network to keep in touch.

What is the process for participating in a Fresh Arts exhibition?

There is a sub committee formed who will put together an expression of interest form for distribution to members prior to the closing date. Exhibitions may have a theme and artists are requested to provide information about the artwork for example: title, dimensions, materials, price and year of creation. It's important you get this information in to the sub committee on the closing date in order for the artworks to be recieved and the exhibition proposals to be completed on time. For more information, get in touch with one of the executive who will be able to let you know what the next exhibition will be about.

Who can be on the sub committee?

The sub committee is usually appointed at the AGM who oversee the organisation of an exhibition. Any member can nominate to the sub committee which is elected by members for the course of the year. The sub committee is responsible for all aspects of the respective show including organising the installation team, liason with venue, event management for opening night and related artist talks, promotion, selling of work and selecting artists works for the show. Occasionally the sub committee may seek advice from a professional independent curator who provides pro-rata advice to the organisation or assists with selection and hanging of work.

Are Fresh Arts shows selective shows?

All artists who are members are able to participate in exhibitions and thus the shows are not selective. This is because the exhibitions are run by a collective and all the artists in the show are peers and colleagues. The network is about support of aritsts in the network and thus the sub committee will include all works submitted for exhibition within the exhibition space available.

I have this great idea for an exhibition or event. What do I do?
